1. Ecarma, Caleb (2024, March 13th)" Could Congress Tiktok Ban Actually land on Joe Biden's Desk?" This article discussed the banning of the Social media app TikTok. Politicians from both parties say that the app is a threat to national security because TikTok may be forced to give Chinese authorities user data about Americans or could be used to propagate propaganda. Apps like TikTok provide the Chinese Communist Party the ability to spread harmful content to our youth and carry out evil deeds, like gathering Americans' location, contacts, shopping patterns, and sensitive data.
2. What I find interesting in this article is how big an app would impact this generation. In this article, though, what caught my attention the most was Donald Trump's statement about TikTok and Facebook, "There's a lot of good, and there's a lot of bad with TikTok," he continued, "but the thing I don't like is that without TikTok, you can make Facebook bigger, and I consider Facebook to be an enemy of the people." This makes me think that TikTok is not the only app people should be worried about, as others could pose the same threat.
3. The author, Caleb Ecarma, has been covering media and politics since 2016 and is known to be one of the reporters of Vanity Fair. He wrote many different articles, including this one. He is a trusted writer and a trustworthy source. The research I would do to find out more is to do some more reading and find more evidence about this issue
4. The author used quotes to support his statements in this article. The quotes were from Presidents Joe Biden and Donald Trump, who gave their take on the situation. The author also used TikTok's public policy chief as a quote to provide an insider's view of TikTok itself.
5. This article taught me about different problems and why the government plans to ban TikTok. The problem that stood out to me the most was how it could spread offensive material to young people and carry out nefarious operations like tracking down Americans' whereabouts, shopping preferences, contacts, and private information. But banning TikTok does not make sense to me; other social media can do the same thing, but why are they only banning TikTok?
6. The banning of TikTok does not make any sense. As I said in Question 5, other social media apps can also access our information, contacts, etc. Many people will agree. Also, if the US government were to ban TikTok, it could upend the livelihoods of people who use the app to make a living.
7. There's a lot in this article that I don't agree with; banning TikTok will make people go crazy and use other social media to rant about it. TikTok is not the only social media that exists, but it is sure the most popular one. Other apps like Facebook, Instagram, etc, can also track, hack, and get our personal information, just like what they say about tiktok.
8. Tiktok should not be banned because a lot of people use it for entertainment, emotional relief, learning, and cultural education. Some also use tiktok for their businesses.
