An industrial spill released, among things, benzene and arsenic into soil and groundwater. Soil pH has been measured in the spill area at 6.5 to 7.0. Ground water pH is 7.5, and Eh is -100 millivolts. Propose a plan for cleaning benzene and arsenic from both soil and ground water, and you can use several techniques. Your cleanup plan should include any phase (dissolved or vapor) that benzene might occur in. You can consult the Benzene fact sheet posted on Canvas to help develop your remediation plan.

a. Is ground water in an oxidized or reduced state based on Eh data?

b. Is benzene expected to be mobile in soil or will it bind to soil particles?

c. Could any benzene be present as vapor in the soil?

d. Which if any of the "spheres" should be included in monitoring for potential impacts? Geosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere?
