Question

You're a manager in a large corporation with a highly organic organizational structure that has a strong commitment to on-going innovation. The company has just purchased the plastics-manufacturing subsidiary from an old-line industrial company; that former owner's strategy was to make and sell low-value plastic items that have changed little over the years. You've been promoted to a top managerial position in this newly purchased subsidiary and want to re-shape the behavior of its employees, to get them to learn the value of pursuing constant innovation. How might you go about achieving that objective? Your answer should draw on the concepts of learning you just encountered as well as the discussion on fostering innovation that was covered in Chapter 6.
