Corporate social responsibility refers to the responsibilities of a corporation to be a concerned and engaged citizen in its communities.

However, Milton Friedman argued that a company’s only responsibility was to reward its shareholders with profits. It was then up to the shareholders as individuals to use their own money to contribute to social causes.
