As a manager at Hightech Ltd. you are pleased with the direction of the company. The company develops and manufactures drones for commercial use in the security monitoring industry. You are responsible for a section which manages the company's service and maintenance of the drones. The company's strategy is one of supporting and nurturing corporate entrepreneurship and innovation.
Your relatively new employee, Jane, has stopped you in the corridor and outlined an exciting new concept she has in service delivery involving using QR codes to assist customers in identifying problems and accessing the service and maintenance team.
Her description of the concept is very sketchy, and your first thought is that you have more major and pressing problems to solve. You also believe that there are sufficient avenues and ways for the customers to contact your team via the service desk. However, you do see some merit in the suggestion.
You ask her to arrange a meeting with you to review her idea. No one in your department has come to you before with any innovative ideas.
1. As Jane's manager what would you do to support her? Identify two key issues you would raise with Jane in your next meeting with her to explore her innovative idea?
2.As a middle manager what issues would you raise at a meeting of your co-managers to improve the process of innovation and intrapreneurship at Hitech?
