A new technologist working on a weekend in the core laboratory encounters an extremely low glucose levels of 23 mg/dL (reference interval 70-100 mg/dL). She repeats the specimen and obtains the same result. She notes that all other tests results within the CHEM panel are within the normal reference range except for the potassium which is 5.3 mEq/L (reference interval 3.5 - 5.3 mEq/L), slightly above the normal reference range. There are no previous results available for this pre-op outpatient. What should she do?
