You are the subject coordinator of 'Ethics' and have done a wonderful job teaching the subject to your students. After your final class, a student offers you a $500 Château Angélus bottle of wine as a gesture of gratitude.

After showing your colleague the gift, your colleague asks you a question that makes you think the gift was not so innocent. Your colleague wants to know if you had finalised the students results prior to accepting the gift. Knowing that you haven't finalised the results, you believe the gift may actually be a bribe and you feel somewhat pressured to now ensure the student passes the subject.

Are you concerns warranted (do you accept or return the gift)? When does a gift become a bribe? What steps would you take in the future to ensure there is no misunderstanding in accepting a gift from a student?
