Scenario

As management WHS representative you are intimately involved with anything to do with workplace safety and security at The Righteous Inn.

Staff have advised you that there appears to be a problem with security at the venue in that a number of doors leading into the property are not being locked at night when staff finish their shifts and close down the venue. On the basis of hazard reports you have received, as well as anecdotes you have heard, it seems this issue has been ongoing for the last month or so and involves doors leading into the accommodation floors, store areas, the gaming lounge, several of the bars, the bistro, two kitchens the cafe, the beer cool room and the Maintenance Department.

Not only does this pose a security threat in relation to the potential for theft and/or property damage but it also raises a possible risk of assault to staff and guests as well as an increased risk of armed hold- ups.

You have asked to meet with the HSR so you can discuss this issue and work out a resolution. She has agreed and the meeting is scheduled for 3:00PM - a look at the clock tells you just have time to grab a couple of coffees before you head over to her office.

Give me some solutions including the those problem below.

  • How you would give workers a chance to provide input to this situation.
  • How you would address this issue through consultation with HSR.
