Although the fuel efficiency of cars and trucks has increased and modern automobiles pollute less than older cars, we have to remember that the amount of people driving cars and the availability of cars has increased. not only this but more people are driving frequently due to things such as commuting to work, family vacations, and trips to the store to gather necessities. This combined with more urban areas experiencing traffic congestion definitely increases the amount of air pollution. Not only must these factors be taken into consideration but the way that we get our energy and power our homes and appliances. Most of our energy still comes from fossil fuels and this combined with automobiles heavily increases the amount of pollution in the air.

I would say that the pollution levels are up because the amount of cars on the road has increased. It is more common for people to have cars and not only one car but more. Increasing the number of drivers increases the carbon dioxide and other gases into the air. The longevity of the cars has increased. Cars are able to burn more fuel which allows them to stay on the road longer rather than before when cars' heating was not the best, so it could not go the distance. This would also lead to more pollution being put into the air. There is less use of public transportation since more people are able to afford cars. Again this would lead to the increase of pollutants into the air.
