Tagamet and Protonix are drugs commonly used to control stomach acid production and release for patients with heartburn or stomach ulcers. These drugs have different mechanisms of action, however, and Tagamet is a competitive enzyme inhibitor, while Protonix is a non-competitive enzyme inhibitor.
