Play activities are an essential part of every child's life and it is widely recognized that play contributes significantly to a child's development.
Play activities must be age-appropriate as well as ability-appropriate.
Special needs children may require adaptations in recreational activity planning to best meet their individual needs and ability to participate.
Part 1
Your group will research the condition and design an age-appropriate recreational program/fun activity for a child with special needs.
Each group can choose the setting (ie. school, home, etc) where the interaction with the child will occur. Effective communication techniques specific to the child's condition should be included in the presentation.
Your assignment should include:
A brief overview of the condition your child has.
A description of the activity, including location where it will occur, adaptations to meet the client's needs if any, and how it benefits the client.
Effective communication techniques specific to your client.
Age and condition appropriate safety precautions.
Part 2
1. Creativity: Was there good use of colour and pictures to keep your interest?
2. Information: Did you learn something new about the condition?
3. Activity: Was the activity interesting and age and skill appropriate?
