Directions: • Describe the views of international trade by David Hume, Adam Smith, and David Ricardo. Read and cite their writings, not secondary sources.
• Contrast these views with mercantilism. Cite primary sources from the early mercantilist philosophers. You can find a list of mercantilist philosophers on Wikipedia, but then find their original writings. This will take a little searching. Try to avoid secondary sources.
• Find several quotes (videos, articles, tweets, etc.) where politicians or journalists say things about international trade. Would you align their philosophy with that of mercantilists or to that of Hume, Smith, or Ricardo? Explain why.
• Why do you think these politicians or journalists have these views about international trade? Explain.
