They content that limitations on the collection of digital data could hinder law enforcement's ability to effectively carry out their duties and prevent criminal activities. This collection of "cell site data", according to the Supreme Court in the case of United States v. Carpenter if done by without a warrant by government forces such as law enforcement agencies is violative of the Fourth Amendment, specifically on its prohibition against unreasonable searches and seizures. It is noted that in the case of United States v. Carpenter, the Supreme Court narrowed down the violation of the Fourth Amendment solely in any collection of cell-site data only, such that it verily implies that collection of any information that may be produced or found in a citizen's cellular phone may be seized without a warrant.
