Two cartons sit next to, and touching, each other on a frictionless horizontal surface. The lighter carton has a mass of 5.28 kg and the heavier carton has a mass of 7.42 kg.
(a) Find the contact force between these cartons when a horizontalforce of 4.9 N is applied to the light carton.

(b) If the 4.9 N force is applied to the heavy carton instead, isthe contact force between the cartonss the same as, greater than,or less than the contact force in part (a)?

(c) Verify your answer to part (b) by calculating the contact forcein this case.
