The Class of February Energy Solutions Company Limited (February Energy) a wholly Zambian-owned company has proposed to venture into the production of energy from solid waste in Lusaka. February Energy was incorporated in 2000 with the objective of exploring and developing sustainable (renewable) energy sources. The Company has identified solid waste as one such potential source of renewable clean energy. February Energy proposes to invest Ten Million United States Dollars (US$10,000,000.00) over the next two years to build a modern plant to produce 50 Mega Watts of Electricity and 2000m³ of industrial and domestic gas. The Company believes that the proposed plant will contribute towards the following: 1. Reduction in solid waste disposal problems in Lusaka; 2. Reduction in the current electricity deficit in the country; and 3. Achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy) by Zambia. At full production, the plant is expected to create 200 permanent jobs. Required: You are the Project Manager for February Energy and Management has requested you to develop a Business Case for the Project: Construction of a Solid Waste Processing Plant to Produce Energy. Any assumptions made in the development of the Business Case should be stated clearly.
