Construction Technology
Topic - Building Failure
As previously noted, buildings are unique product purchases, in that, they are manufactured before the clients' eyes as distinct from other purchases that are completed before being purchased e.g., car. Consequently, the client can have more input into the product production i.e., plan and specification, and during construction. This is particularly the case when documentation is insufficient or incomplete and possibly leading to disputes. Consequently, for the construction company to keep a pipeline of ongoing work, they need to be selecting and using the most efficient and effective products and services.
As previously noted, general project managers as distinct from construction managers while using project principles, (DO NOT repeat PM again), need to be technically competent and aware of current and new products and services and their technical specific requirements to manage the construction project effectively and efficiently.
The assignment task in accordance with construction management principles relates to a topic on the latest technology relating to a high-rise building as listed on PowerPoints No 12, of my PowerPoint presentation 1, as agreed with me (as previously noted students cannot do the same topics). However, under the heading of cost and resources, and in particular construction procurement, construction managers need to research the products and or associated services or ones soon to be released for use in the construction process to remain competitive.
Consequently, you will need to conduct a thorough review of the literature associated with your approved topic. I suggest you review of google, google scholar the various database online e.g., Scopus, and in the library together with manufacturer details, associated building legislation, relevant Australian or International Standards, Workplace Codes, etc.
There is various word pre-formatting system that you can use and while these take some initial time to set up in the long term, they will save you considerable time when writing various assignment (see WORD-FORMATTING, this document can be googled). This specific guide is not compulsory, but you MUST set out your assignment to include the following: Arial, formatting page numbers, using chapter templates, footnotes, images, and figures, etc. all correctly formatted and conforming to the Harvard citation system.
Some points to be noted.
1. You must read your articles and place the content within the Australian context.
2. When you include a figure or table you MUST provide a couple of paragraphs on what you want the reader to note, see or understand.
3. Only use metric not imperial measurements.
4. Read your articles carefully and rewrite and paraphrase.
5. Do not use AI as it generally only collects general information and can makes up references or the general information is not appliable to the Australian context. Marks will be deducted accordingly.
6. You can make direct comparisons between overseas situations and the Australian context.
