• Strategies for dealing with conflict include the following:
oConfronting
oCompromising
oSmoothing
oForcing
oAvoidance
oCollaboration
• Conflict process might include these steps:
oAnalyze the conflict (perhaps even with a fishbone technique).
oDetermine the strategy that will be employed.
oNegotiate before, during, and after.
oReach a consensus.
oCommit to carry out the solution.
oAnalyze through lessons learned after conflict is resolved.
• The mediation process could include the following:
oGo through the normal conflict process first.
oIf this does not work, then you should bring in a trained or certified mediator.
oThis mediator will use facilitation until conflict is resolved.
oIt is important that the mediator can stay neutral and unbiased.
oBuilding trust throughout the mediation process is important.
