Scholars on both the left and the right have concluded that the development of the Constitution contained concepts of equality and freedom, but these principles were not necessarily egalitarian (believing in the principle that all people are equal and deserve equal rights and opportunitiesas) as it related to their application of inclusiveness and equality for women and minority groups. Over the life of the Constitution new amendments have been introduced in response to the changing social and political dimensions of the country. The 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments (sometimes referred to as the Reconstruction Amendments) are many times credited with helping to shift the inegalitarian dynamics of society created in part by the Constitution.
Question:
Considering these amendments, do you believe they have actually and sufficiently corrected/addressed the deficiencies of inequality originally contemplated for certain groups during the development of the Constitution? How and/or Why? Or do you think that despite these and other amendments to the Constitution, the inegalitarian nature of governance has already been irreversibly ingrained in the structure of the country? How and/or Why? What information from the reading, lecture notes, video content, or from content outside of the text lead you to this conclusion?
