An object at rest in a coordinate frame suddenly explodes into three parts of equal mass m. Two parts move away at right angles to each other and with equal speeds |v|.

a) Calculate which direction is consistent with the physical law of conservation of momentum assuming there are no external forces.

b) Calculate the magnitude (speed) of the velocity of the third part in terms of the parameters

m and |v|.

c) Does your solution conserve the mechanical energy of the system?
