Florence Nightingale was a pioneer in the field of nursing. She is often considered the founder of modern nursing. Her many observations led to multiple protocols and changes that we now use as our foundation for nursing care. She believed in the importance of holistic care- spiritual, physical, and emotional. Florence Nightingale readily admitted that her desire was to follow God's will for her life, and she considered nursing a calling that was given to her by the Lord. This calling would even lead her to the front lines of the Crimean War in 1854, where many of her ideas and theories would be put into practice. The Lord would indeed use her life to shape the field of nursing, and her work provides a foundation for what we do today.
