Respond back to this Depression is an affliction almost considered taboo to a lot of the general population. Many cultures and families neglect talking about let alone treating depression. Even though it is a taboo, the prevalence is significant around 151 million people worldwide (Arcangelo et al., 2022, pg. 783). The first line treatment for depression is SSRI's. However, I have seen in my practice the efficacy of bupropion(wellbutrin). This drug works by acting as a weak inhibitor of neuronal uptake of norepinephrine and dopamine (Arcangelo et al., 2022, pg. 796). This drug is considered a first line only when sexual dysfunction is one manifestation of the patient's depression. Side effects of this medication can include somnolence, fatigue and weight gain but, all at lower instances than SSRIs. I have seen several patients with this medication as their sole regime and all have relayed improvement of depression symptoms. Given that fact depression tends to be a roller coaster so re-evaluation of all regimens should be continually performed.
