Question

Depression among young people is considered a public health issue because it impacts their personal, social, and academic lives (Ramos-Vera et al., 2023). Worldwide, 34 percent of teenagers between the ages of 10 and 19 are at risk of developing clinical depression (Shorey et al., 2022). Prioritizing the prevention and treatment of depression represents a major public health priority, as depression disorders contribute significantly to the global disease burden (Clayborne et al., 2019). There is therefore need for early detection, prevention, and treatment of depressive symptoms. It is on the basis of these findings that this paper endeavors to examine one of the objectives of Healthy People 2030 of increasing the percentage of adolescents with depression receiving treatment. The paper will highlight some of the current and innovative interventions, the policy implications, as well as the role of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)-prepared nurse in meeting the objective.
