Two water pumps are being considered for new sanitary sewer systems. Pump A costs $10,000 new, will cost $400 per year to operate, and has a salvage value at the end of ten years of $2,500. Pump B costs $6,500 new, costs $800 per year to operate, and has a salvage value at the end of ten years of $500. Using an interest rate of 6.0 percent per year, compounded annually, use each of the three methods below to compare the two pumps and recommend which pump should be purchased.
