Principles of Industrial Electrochemistry
Consider a cell consisting of a silver wire coated with solid silver chloride and a zinc wire in an aqueous solution of zinc chloride at 25oC.
a) Calculate the reversible potential difference between the two wires when the activity of dissolved zinc chloride is 0.01 molal (mol/kg H20). Indicate the direction of the spontaneous reaction and the sign of the electrodes.
b) Calculate the reversible potential difference between the two wires when the electrolyte is saturated with an excess of solid zinc chloride. Determine the activity of dissolved zinc chloride in a saturated solution.
Standard chemical potentials at 25oC:
AgCl (crystal) mo = -109.8 kJ/mol
ZnCl2 (crystal) mo = -369.4 kJ/mol
ZnCl2 (dissolved in H20) mo = -409.5 kJ/mol
By what percentage does the solubility of lead iodide decrease when dissolved in a solution of 0.02 M ammonium iodide
Describe what is meant by an amphoteric species. Write the equation for the self ionization of water and know the ion product constant expression for water and its value at 25 degrees.
the equilibrium constant kp for the decomposition of nitrogen dioxide is 4.48 10-13 at 250c. what is the kc for that
An aqueous solution containing 10g of optically pure fructose was diluted to 500mL with water and placed in a polarimeter tube 20 cm long. The measured rotation was -5.20 degrees. Calculate the specific rotation of fructose.
Calculate the wavelength, in nanometers, of the spectral line produced when an electron in a hydrogen atom undergoes
what would be the effect on your calculated molecular weight of p-dichlorobenzene if your lab partner left the stopper
calculate pH at points between the start of titration and equvalence point: choose points so tht they will be more dense where change in pH is faster
Equilibrium constant Kc for the reaction: H2 (g) + CO2 (g) - H2O (g) + CO (g) a) in one experiment, a container is introduced in a mixture formed by the four shown in the reaction gases.
A balloon with an initial volume of 3.8 L at a temperature of 305 K is warmed to 385 K. What is its volume at the final temperature?
For TiCl4, delta H (not) is 54.3 kJ/mol and delta S (not) is 133 J/mol*K what is the boiling point of TiCl4 in degrees C
what should this person do from this point on to get a reasonable yield of 1-octanol?
A 2.0 L-reaction flask initially contains 0.17 mol CO, 0.15 mol H2, and 0.10 mol CH3OH (methanol). If this mixture is brought in contact with a zinc oxide-chromium(III) oxide catalyst, the equilibrium shown below is attained.
