As students are getting their coats and boots on to go out for recess, Gina shoves the student next to her in order to get a laugh from other classmates. On day 1, Ms. Diaz tells Gina to stay in from recess as a consequence of the misbehavior. Gina misbehaves again on day 2, and again is told to stay in from recess. The same thing happens on days 3 through 5, with Gina continuing the same misbehavior and Ms. Diaz continuing to apply the same disciplinary action. Describe an A-B-C analysis as best you can with each part. (You may need to make some inferences since this scenario is brief). Then explain what function of the behavior and consequence Gina may be experiencing. What are some suggestions you may recommend the teacher use to manage the misbehavior more effectively.
THE THREE CONTINGENCIES ARE THE ABC THEORY;
Antecedent-The antecedent stimulus occurs first in the contingency and signals that reinforcement or punishment is available on the contingency of a specific behavior.
Behavior-The behavior, also referred to as the response, is any observable and measurable action a living organism can do. In the three-term contingency, behavior is operant, meaning it changes the environment in some way.
Consequence-
The consequence of a behavior can be reinforcing or punishing. Reinforcing consequences increase the likelihood of a behavior occurring in the future; it is further divided into positive and negative reinforcement. Punishing consequences decrease the likelihood of a behavior occurring in the future; like reinforcement, it is divided into positive and negative punishment.
