For this essay and the rest of the course, pick a hobby, occupation, field of study, or special interest that connects personally to your life.
You are going to be ultimately writing an argumentative research paper on the subject you choose.
What I don't want: the kinds of typical arguments you might find in a high school class or when you Google "top ten argument topics." Why? Because these papers become predictable, patterned and (frankly) boring. So, try to avoid topics like gun control, abortion, the death penalty, or human cloning unless you personally participate in a group involved with these movements or have some life experience relative to these topics (see Proposal notes or Discussion 2 for examples).
1. What hobby, occupation, field of study, or special interest are you proposing to explore in your writing this semester? Explain it in several sentences-as if you are speaking to someone who is unfamiliar with most of the details.
2. What are some of your opinions or beliefs on the subject you chose? Describe them.
3. Find one credible website that could provide you with information you did not know before on this subject. Describe why you think it is a credible source. See the quiz answer and notes for how to incorporate this into a sentence.
4. Explain how this subject relates to you personally. What interests you about it? Do you have any prior involvement with this subject? What's your story?
