While there are some connections between elder abuse and child abuse, there are also certain differences. Elderly victims of abuse are as defenseless and incapable of pleading their own cases as minors, which is why relatively few instances involving elder abuse ever make it to court and fear that their authority is limited (Bouras, 2016). Elder abuse and child abuse are comparable in that they might involve physical, emotional, or sexual abuse as well as mistreatment and theft of money.

Additionally, the fact that both depend on caretakers makes them especially vulnerable. Youngsters rely on adults to meet their fundamental requirements, but elderly people may need assistance from others because of physical or mental limitations. Differences between the two is that while elder abuse can occur anywhere, including assisted living institutions and nursing homes, child abuse usually takes place in the home.

While seniors maintain their legal rights and obligations until a judge finds them to be incompetent, children are legally considered incompetent and need guardianship. One thing that surprised me is that some children who grow up being abused continue the cycle of abusing or they end up with a abuser. Its a cycle.
