There are various ways in which social capital is connected to the physical health of community members. Access to resources like food, shelter, and healthcare is one of the most important elements. Communities with greater levels of social capital often have better access to resources than those with lower levels, according to study from the Greater New Orleans Community Data Center (GNOCDC). Strong social networks, for instance, may increase the likelihood of community gardens or food banks, which may provide locals access to a variety of nutritious food alternatives. Similar to this, areas with high social capital may be more likely to have medical professionals or clinics that provide care that is both affordable and accessible.
