There are two ways to handle the situation, we can (1) apologize to the family and see if we can work something out with them, or (2) confront the co worker immediately about the situation. I would let my colleague know that it was not their place to talk with the family about their punctuality, and if it was something that bothered her so much, she could have talked with our boss first before rudely placing her opinion upon the family. I would suggest that my colleague attends a diversity and inclusion seminar, which many early childhood centers offer, to begin to work on their cultural humility. We can also host a family cultural night, where families and children interact based on their cultures and heritages. We can always begin educating coworkers by making sure examples are being set so others can look at the practices that are happening. Every opportunity is a learning moment, and we must take and seize these opportunities. Thankfully, there have not been cultural differences that have disturbed my workplace. I work in a very welcoming and warm environment that does its best to go out of the way to accommodate families and their children. We have even gone as far as learning languages so that when a new student arrives, we know some words to communicate with them in.
