Suppose that we had a health index measure from 0 to 100, where values closer to 100 meant better health and closer to 0 meant worse health. Utilizing this health measure, it is known that for every year you smoke it is estimate that the health index goes down by 0.75. Similarly, for every year you engage in drinking too much it goes down by 1.2. If a person engages in both drinking and smoking the index goes down by 3 units.
