Based on the following scenarios use the Steps to Conflict Resolution to assist the students to resolve the issues. Name each step. Describe what you will do and provide the words you will say at each step. In this situation you are to role play as if you are providing positive guidance to the student(s). Use your imagination of how this conflict resolution will evolve.
Scenario #1
Johnny and Max
You are the teacher assistant in the grade five classroom of your local elementary school. During recess you observe a group of children playing soccer baseball. Johnny, one of your classroom students and Max, from the grade four class, begin to scuffle over possession of the ball. Johnny breaks away with the ball and turns around and throws it hard at Max's head. Max retaliates by running to Johnny and hitting him in the face.

Megan and Mr. Smith
Megan is a typical 16-year-old high school sophomore. She is more focused on fitting in with her peers than she is on her school work. Her history teacher, Mr. Smith, has noticed Megan's grades slip over the last few months. Today Mr. Smith is handing back an important test students took the week before. Megan failed the test, and as Mr. Smith hands her the test, she takes it and rips it into pieces after the encouragement of a friend. Mr. Smith directs Megan to pick up the papers. Megan refuses, shouts a few expletives at Mr. Smith, and storms out of the classroom.
