For this assignment, read the following scenario:
You work as the manager of talent acquisition and development. A major position within your company has become available as a result of a retirement. Your first reaction is to post the position internally, but the department manager has indicated that they have a great external candidate in mind that they would like to see considered for the job.
The position is posted both internally and externally, and resumes begin to come in. During the scoring and review process, two internal candidates and the department manager's suggested external candidate get interviews. The external candidate interviews and presents better than the internal candidates and is offered the job, which they accept. It is announced and almost immediately the chief steward of the union asks you how you could support the hiring of a relative of the department manager that they will report to. Embarrassed, you thank the steward for their feedback and proceed to have a discussion with the department manager about anti-nepotism policies and request to know why the family connection was not disclosed.
