Objectives of this Lab:

The goal of this lab is to configure Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs) in Packet Tracer.

Lab:

Create the network topology below in Packet Tracer.

Question 1. Execute the following commands on Switch1 to configure a VLAN named Sales with the VLAN ID as 10. Remember to enter into configuration mode you have to enter the command configure terminal in Privileged EXEC mode.
Switch1(config)#vlan 10
Switch1(config-vlan)#name Sales Switch1(config-vlan)#exit

Question 2. Execute the following commands on Switch1 to configure a VLAN named Account with the VLAN ID as 20, as shown in the above figure.
Switch1(config)#vlan 20
Switch1(config-vlan)#name Account Switch1(config-vlan)#exit

Question 3. Once you have configured the desired VLANs, execute the following commands to assign the Fa0/1 interface to Sales VLAN and Fa0/2 interface to Account VLAN.

Switch1(config)#interface fa0/1
Switch1(config-if)#switchport mode access
Switch1(config-if)#switchport access vlan 10 Switch1(config-if)#exit
Switch1(config)#interface fa0/2
Switch1(config-if)#switchport mode access
Switch1(config-if)#switchport access vlan 20 Switch1(config-if)#exit
Switch1(config)#exit

Question 4. Verify the VLAN configuration by executing the following command Switch1#show vlan brief

Question 5. After configuring VLANs on Switch1, next, configure the same VLANs (Sales and Account) and assigned the same interfaces (Fa0/1 and Fa0/2) to the respective VLANs on Switch2
Switch(config)#hostname Switch2 Switch2(config)#vlan 10
Switch2(config-vlan)#name Sales Switch2(config-vlan)#exit
Switch2(config)#vlan 20

Switch2(config-vlan)#name Account Switch2(config-vlan)#exit

Switch2(config)#interface fa0/1

Switch2(config-if)#switchport mode access

Switch2(config-if)#switchport access vlan 10 Switch2(config-if)#exit
Switch2(config)#interface fa0/2

Switch2(config-if)#switchport access vlan 20 Switch2(config-if)#exit
Switch2(config)#exit

Question 6. On Switch1, execute the following commands. Switch1(config-if)#interface Fa0/3
Switch1(config-if)#switchport mode trunk

Remember switches have two kinds of ports: Access Ports and Trunk Ports. Access ports can only have PCs (laptops, desktops) attach to them and Trunk Ports can have other devices e.g., switches and routers attach to them.

Question 7. Next, move on to Switch2 and execute the following commands. Switch2(config-if)#interface Fa0/3
Switch2(config-if)#switchport mode trunk

Question 8. Assign all PCs the desired IP addresses as shown in the topology diagram.

1. You must change the name of right-side switch i.e. Switch 1 to your own name and put a screenshot in your report
2. Attach screenshots of successful creation of VLANs on both switches.
3. Ping from Sales PC0 to Sales PC2. The ping should succe ed as they are in the same VLAN. You must attach a screenshot of a successful ping.
4. Now ping from Sales PC0 to Account PC3. The ping should not succeed as they are in separate VLANs. You must attach a screenshot of an unsuccessful ping.
