A random sample 8  student cars (group 1) were found to have ages with a mean of 8 years and a standard deviation of 3.4 years, while second, independent random sample of 9  faculty cars (group 2) were found to have ages with a mean of 5.8  years and a standard deviation of 3.3  years. You may assume that car ages for both groups are approximately normally distributed and that the two population variances are equal.

1. Use a 0.05 significance level to test the claim that, on average, student cars are older than faculty cars.

(a) The test statistic is t =

(b) The critical value is t =

(c) Is there sufficient evidence to support the claim that student cars are older than faculty cars?

 A. No

 B. Yes

2. Construct a 95% confidence interval estimate of the difference μ1-μ2, where μ1 is the mean age of student cars and μ2 is the mean age of faculty cars.___<(μ1-μ2)<___
