The Oxford University baseball team is playing in the conference championship against Suffolk University. You are the head athletic trainer for the team. It is the bottom of the fifth in a 1-1 tie. Oxford's best player, Michael Montgomery, is at the plate and hits a sharp liner to right field. Michael gambled against the right fielder's strong arm and tried to stretch the hit into a double. He was called out on a very close play, and as he slid into second base, he severely sprained his right ankle. The ankle swelled quite rapidly and Michael was in obvious pain as you helped him off the field. You assumed that Michael would definitely be taken out of the game, but the manager insists that you tape his ankle quickly so he can continue to play. Despite your fervent disagreement, the manager insists that you follow his order. What would you do in this situation? Would you follow the manager's order or disobey his command and keep Michael out of the game? Provide an explanation, from both an ethical and athletic training perspective, to support your position.
