You read about the research conducted on the amygdala and the criminal brain.
Pardini, Raine, Erickson, and Loeber (2013) conducted a study and found that men with a smaller amygdala were approximately three times more likely to be aggressive and violent. This is because the amygdala controls our experience of fear, and having a reduced level of fear is associated with aggression, violence, impulsiveness, and criminal behavior. Furthermore, Glenn, Raine, and Schug (2009) showed that criminals tend to have reduced amygdala functioning as well, indicating that criminals are more likely to have an amygdala that is both smaller and less functional than that of non-criminals. Gao, Raine, Venables, Dawson, and Mednick (2010) demonstrated that children who displayed a lack of fear at age 3 were significantly more likely to commit crimes twenty years later, indicating that you can predict future criminal behavior in children with a smaller or underactive amygdala.
