Fraud, theft, privacy, speed, incompetence, inflation and corruption are some of the challenges faced in the banking and finance industry. For instance, in 2020, the UK Finance members recorded 149,946 cases in the Authorised Push Payment (APP) scams resulting in losses of over £479 million (ukfinance.org.uk, 2021). The adoption of blockchain technology could help mitigate some of these problems. Computer and blockchain technology have gradually made digital currencies take the place of traditional currencies (Boshkov, 2019). Through the use of digital currencies, fast and low-cost transactions will be possible at home and abroad. Digital currency usage in the financial sector would promote greater transparency, fair policies and decentralisation. This research is exploratory in nature, aimed at investigating the impact of the adoption of digital currency on the finance and accounting of businesses. A case study of Deloitte NSE LLP, a company that has adopted blockchain technology, will be undertaken.

Methodology and Data Resources

A qualitative research approach will be followed in this study. The conduct of qualitative analysis will be done using a non-probability sampling method with participants selected from the chosen case study. Secondary data on blockchain technology will be systematically reviewed.
