Selecting a Research Topic
In this Individual Assignment, you will select a final research topic and submit it for approval by your Faculty Member. Approval by your faculty member will confirm that your topic is relevant, meaningful and feasible and that you can continue working on developing this topic. Non-approval by your faculty member will signal that you will have to continue refining the topic - you should return to the criteria for selecting the right topic above - using the feedback provided by your faculty member on how to refine your topic.
To complete this Individual Assignment:
- State your research topic as clearly and concisely as possible. Use the articles that you found and which relate to your topic to put your topic in context.
- Include 2-3 paragraphs on why this topic is important to you and your purpose in choosing it.
- Cite research literature you have found that has helped you select or refine your topic.
Shared Activities
Beginning a Literature Review
The readings in Units 1 and 2 have guided you toward thinking more about how research can help leaders better understand issues that are important in today's organisations. The Final Project for this module requires you to select a research topic, conduct a critical literature review and select methods for data collection and analysis. You will reflect on the management research literature you have read thus far and what topic would be valuable to your professional situation and interests. In this Shared Activity, you will begin searching the literature for articles that can help you clarify your research topic and share ideas for how to search for and make sense of the research literature most effectively.
To prepare for this Shared Activity:
- Read Unit 2 assigned readings.
- Library for at least two research articles that relate to your chosen research topic.
To complete this Shared Activity:
- Post a brief summary of how the articles you found relate to your research topic and whether they helped you refine or clarify your topic. Include any questions you still have about how to select or refine your topic and how to search the research literature most effectively.
