Assignment -

Overview: Your task is to help the organization answer their question by critically analyzing the data. You will run statistical tests, interpret the results, and present the results and recommendations to non-technical decision makers in the form of a statistical report. Keep in mind that it is your job to do this from a statistical standpoint. Be sure to justify your conclusions and recommendations with appropriate statistical support.

Prompt: In Milestone Three, you created a table listing the tests you were going to complete to investigate your health question. In Milestone Four, you will actually complete these calculations.

Specifically, you must address these critical elements:

A. Graphs: In this section, you will use graphical displays to examine the data and formulate an initial hypothesis. In particular, you should:

1. Create key graphical displays that give a sense of potential relationships between variables. Include the graphs and discuss why you selected these graphical displays as opposed to others.

B. Conduct appropriate hypothesis tests, simple regressions, and other tests to analyze the data set.

C. Explain why these tests are the best choice in this context and how they compare with established best practices.

D. Analysis of Biostatistics: Use this section to describe your findings from a statistical standpoint. Be sure to:

1. Present key biostatistics from the graphs, tests, and regressions performed, and explain what they mean. Be sure to include a spreadsheet showing your work as an appendix.

2. What statistical inferences or conclusions can you draw based on the hypothesis tests and simple regression analyses performed? Justify your response.

Milestone Three -

State the question you will pursue in the box to the right. (This should be copied and pasted from the list of questions and should be the same question submitted in weeks 2 and 3 unless you have changed your question.)

What test/analysis technique will you perform?

(It is highly recommended that you choose ONLY ONE test or technique. Some examples include a t-test, regression, etc.)

There is a hypothesis test associated with your test/technique (even if you are not doing a t-test).

What is your null hypothesis?

What is your alternative hypothesis?

How will your technique(s)/test(s) help you answer your question of interest?

Which specific calculations will you need to perform your test? (This may require research.) You do not need to perform the calculations at this time; just state which ones you will perform.

What types of graphs will be useful in explaining your results? Please be specific and include which variables will be used and how they will be broken down.

Some examples include a vertical bar chart showing the average age for each eye color, a scatter plot with height on the horizontal axis and weight on the vertical axis, etc.

If you chose any question other than the first one, you will have to research techniques that we have not learned about yet.

Which technique will you research?

(Only answer if you chose a question that does NOT have to do with gender and length of stay-the first question.)

What is your plan for researching this technique (timeframe and source)?

(Only answer if you chose a question that does NOT have to do with gender and length of stay-the first question.)

Milestone Four -

State the question you will pursue in the box below.

(This should be copied and pasted from the list of questions and should be the same question submitted in weeks 2, 3, and 5 unless you have changed your question.)

Provide ONE graph that is useful in explaining your results.

Explain why you chose this graph above any others to explain the situation.

What test/analysis technique did you perform?

(It is highly recommended that you perform ONLY ONE test or technique. Some examples include a t-test, regression, etc.)

There is a hypothesis test associated with your test/technique (even if you are not doing a t-test).

What is your null hypothesis?

What is your alternative hypothesis?

Provide all relevant calculations for your hypothesis test/ statistical technique.

Explain what this one statistical calculation means for your analysis and the question of interest.

What is the practical conclusion of your statistical test?

(This should be the answer to your question of interest and the reasoning for the conclusion should be clear.)

How did your technique/test help you answer your question of interest? In other words, why did you choose this test?

Include any screenshots of your calculations that are appropriate.
