Instructions
Meaningful use is another way of making sure your organization is compliant in meeting quality and safety recommendations. You collect information through EHRs. That information is then used as data points for different quality measures.
The SAFER guides consist of nine guides organized into three broad areas. These guides enable healthcare organizations to address EHR safety and ability to contribute to overall organizational quality in a variety of areas. Most organizations will want to start with the foundational guides and proceed from there to address areas of greatest interest or concern. The guides identify recommended practices to optimize the safety and safe use of EHR.
In this assignment, you will download and complete a SAFER guide.
For this assignment , Click on HealthIT.gov from the Guidelines and Rubric form for the assignment. There you will find 3 categories for SAFER Guides - Foundational Guides, Infrastructure Guides, and Clinical Process Guides. Each has identified measures next to it. Choose one and click on that (for example, you may choose Patient Identification noted as a measure for Clinical Process Guides). Once you click on one measure you will see a checklist for that measure. The assignment asks you to complete one checklist for whichever measure you choose. For Patient Identification, the SAFER Self-Assessment guide for patient identification has 14 areas to assess; the actual checklist is 3 pages long but be sure to consider the "Risk Assessment" information that follows the checklist - it will help you with documenting your assessment and development of conclusions. These pages provide you with areas to add "Assessment Notes", "Follow Up Actions", and note who will be responsible for follow-up. Download one full checklist (your choice as to which one you want to complete), complete it and submit it for this assignment. Remember that these guides and checklists were designed to help organizations ensure safe use of electronic health records (EHRs) so consider each measure as it relates to EHRs.
