Project Management Principles
Assessment - Case Study (Post-Project Review and Report)
What you need to do
You are required to conduct a post-project review and write a report (approximately 2,000-words) that analyses the performance of a completed project. The project needs to be recognizable and with sufficient information available within the public domain, to undertake this activity. Select one of the projects from the following list for your review.
• The Panama Canal Expansion Project
• Boston Central Artery/Tunnel (big Dig) Project
• Hoover Dam Bypass Project
• Hong Kong- Zhuhai-Macau Bridge Project
• Panama Papers Investigation Project
• Apple's iPhone Development Project
• The Three Gorges Dam Project, China
• Netflix's Original Content Development Project
• Tesla Electric Car Project
• AstraZeneca Vaccine Project
• Lighthouse Laboratory Project, Scotland
• Vodafone Global Local Area Network (GLAN) Project
• Myki Public Transport Ticketing System Project, Victoria
• Fast Ferries Project, British Columbia, Canada
• Quibe Video Streaming Service Project, Los Angeles, USA
• New Perth-Bunbury Highway Project, Western Australia
• Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre Project, Victoria
• Perth Children's Hospital Project, Western Australia
• 2012 London Olympic Project, UK
• Victorian (Wonthaggi) Desalination Plant Project, Victoria
• Clem7 Tunnel Project, Brisbane, QLD
• Queensland Health Payroll System, QLD

• Denver International Airport's Automated Baggage Handling Systems
• Maglev Train Project, Shanghai, China
• Heathrow Airport - Terminal 5 Project, London
• Australian National Museum Project, Canberra
• California Pacific Medical Centre - Cathedral Hill Hospital Project, San Francisco
• Royal Bank of Scotland Headquarters Project, Gogarburn, West Edinburgh
• Aurora Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) Project, Port Augusta, SA
• Wembley Stadium Project, UK
• The Fyre Festival Project 2017 Great Exuma Island (the Bahamas)
• The post-project review must analyse the success or failure of the applied (or failure to apply) project management principles, knowledge areas, processes and/or practices, as relevant and as discussed in the course materials and through your research on best practices using different sources (e.g., books, journal articles, websites, news articles, reports). The challenge will be to take a management view of the project successes or failures and to avoid focusing on the success or failure of the technical, engineering or design solution.
• You need to provide a critical analysis of the project using the appropriate project management principles or concepts. For the analysis, it is suggested that you select three aspects, which could be project management knowledge areas (e.g., cost management, schedule/time management, etc) and/or project management framework/development methodology (e.g., waterfall method, agile method, iterative method, etc). The review must analyse the success (or failure) of the project and provide recommendations on how future project performance could be improved through the application of the lessons learned.
• The report must also include an introduction, conclusions, and recommendations. The recommendations should include how future project management performance could be improved through the adoption of the applied project delivery process as identified from your post-project review and/or through the adoption of the theoretical project delivery process as identified from your research into project management. An executive summary is not required for this assessment. The rough outline of the report is provided at the end as a guidance. Note that while it is not a strict requirement to follow this structure guide, but you might find it helpful to ensure that you've covered all elements required for this assignment.
• The post-project review must be submitted in a report format with appropriate citations and referencing. You are to include a minimum of seven (7) references to support your analysis and presentation of the report. Please do not cite/reference lecture slides or Wikipedia!

Rough Outline/Structure of the Report
The following shows a possible structure/outline for Assessment 1 report. Note that this is a report, and as such you should be using headings and subheadings as necessary, labelling any figures and diagrams appropriately and including appendices, if needed.
Please note that this is a generic structure guide. You are not required to use it, and it should be modified as necessary based on the needs of your report.Note that information should not be repeated (e.g., if you cover a point in one section, there is no need to repeat it in another section).
