Project: Managing the payroll at work

Purpose You will demonstrate your skills and knowledge by completinga poled in your workplace.

Task overview and Imagine that you have been asked to assist in the payroll department instructions to the at your organisation. You will be required to observe and undertake candidate several payroll tasks that are vital to the management of your organisation's payroll process.

You will need to source all relevant payroll documentation and calculate and make the necessary deductions as per ATO statutory requirements. You will need to provide supplementary samples of financial data and address privacy and security compliance when doing

Conduct a payroll process for three employees working within your organisation. Submit a report with responses to the following. Ensure you use a format and style suited to the context and audience. including the use of appropriate headings. Attach any supporting documents. as appropriate.

1. Establish procedures for management of payroll:

a) Explain the processes you used to plan. implement and evaluate routine and non routine tasks to achieve payroll goals and time lines for the three employees.

b) Describe the control measures you undertook to safeguard your organisation's financial resources. including the payroll details of the three employees in accordance with legislative and organisational requirements.

Explain the statutory obligations that must be adhered to for the three employees. including the specified periods determined by government legislation.

d) Explain how to identify and interpret information from organisational policies. legislative and industry-related material.

2. Prepare payroll data:

a) Source and use nominated industrial awards. contracts and government legislation to calculate gross pay and annual salaries for the payroll of three employees working within your organisation.

b) Calculate their statutory and voluntary deductions using government and employee documentation. Describe the process you used.

c) Explain and prepare specific information that clearly conveys an understanding of outcomes required for the three employees.

d) Highlight the importance of recording data accurately using relevant format. style and language suited to context and audience.

3. Authorise payment of

a) Explain the processes or steps you undertook to check the payroll and authorise salaries and wages for payment in accordance with organisational policy and procedures.

b) Describe the processes for dealing with salary. wage and related inquiries in accordance with organisational policy and procedures.

c) Provide examples of documents authorising the payment and salaries made to the three employees.

4. Administer salary records:

a) Explain the steps you undertook to process declaration forms for new and existing employees in accordance with Australian Taxation Office requirements.

b) Make the appropriate calculations and implement them to ensure work is completed according to predetermined deadlines.

c) Provide details on how you prepared and dispatched payments for the three employees to appropriate government authorities accurately and in accordance with relevant government

d) Explain the steps you took to ensure that you created accurate payroll management records for the three employees.

e) Describe the process undertaken to calculate and transcribe group tax amounts and make payments in accordance with taxation procedures.

f) Explain the methods you used to prepare and reconcile the three
employees payment summary amounts from salary records.

g) What data and calculations did you use to reconcile the three employees salaries. wages and deductions in accordance with all legislative and organisational requirements?

The final documents you submit for assessment will be assessed using the project criteria provided.

All project criteria outlined must be covered satisfactorily for Part C to be completed salislactonly.

• A workplace or work placement

• Organisational payroll policies and procedures

• Business technology. including a computer and Internet access

• Access to the ATO webete. at: www.ato.gov.au

• Customer/stall ratios

Assessment conditions Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in the financial management field of work and include access to:

• Mee equipment and resources

• workplace policies and procedures

• samples of financial data

• business technology

• payroll system

• case studies and, where available, real situations. Assessors must satisfy NVR/AQTF assessor requirements.
