Your work as head of HR a company has been exceptional so far. In fact, your video presentation went so well that your CEO has asked you to begin crafting monthly tips for the entire organization of topics that they should consider with respect to best practices in minimizing employee relations problems in the future. The CEO has asked you to put together a short simple checklist of important issues to consider with respect to guidelines for each of the stand managers to consider when establishing wages, hours and best practices in managing the largely young, mostly part time and often transitory employees at our stands. The CEO is a big fan of simple one or two pages of bullet points that provide general guidance or 'things to think about'. This summer Lemonade Inc. will be hiring 50 interns (both paid and unpaid) to join our team. The CEO wants you to help craft this policy and highlight 10 tips to managers that they should always consider relating to managing our upcoming summer hiring initiative to bring in Interns to work at each of our stands.
Consider the readings and lecture this week regarding the FLSA and other laws relating to managing the work force. Conduct a Google search regarding unpaid internships (and don't be surprised by the massive amounts of litigation surrounding this topic). Summarize 10 items that you consider important to highlight to someone in a managerial role as a guide towards things to consider when hiring Interns as part of our work force.
Deliverable:
Written submission structured along the lines suggested by your CEO with
1. A SHORT introduction to managers (Hi everyone, I'm from HR and I'm here to help...here are a list of 10 things to thing about when...)
2. 10 bullet points on important things to consider
Remember this assignment is being written as a general guide to your managers; it needs to balance accuracy with understandability which is often challenging (especially when you have to send it to the legal department to review...). Once again, this is an open ended assignment, give it your best shot. The goal is to put you in the mind set of a real world environment where your employer is going to ask you to help keep us out of trouble as much as possible.
