Assignment:

Few fields can capture the attention and imagination of the public like archaeology. Engaging with prehistory (and history) often sparks strong emotional and intellectual reactions from adults and children alike. Despite the power of archaeology to inspire, reaching out to the public and making archaeological research accessible to the masses is an often-neglected component of the discipline. Many archaeologists consider encouraging stewardship of archaeological resources by the general public to be a key responsibility of professionals in the field and essential for the future of archaeology.

In this activity, you will interview a friend or family member about their exposure to archaeology. A list of questions designed to guide your interview is provided. These questions should provide a framework for assessing the interviewee's understanding of archaeology as a field, their exposure to archeological research, the connection they feel to said research, and the level of interest they have in the archaeology all around them. This is an opportunity to conduct a formal and ethical interview from an anthropological and/or sociological point of view.
