Conceptual Models and Theoretical Frameworks
Read and respond to these posts. Try to comment on those that have had few or no responses thus far. In preparing your response, address the following points:
1. Does the choice of a conceptual model or theoretical framework, or both, seem logical and appropriate?
2. Compare these plans with your own plans for applying a model or framework. Please do the in-text citation
Both the theoretical framework and conceptual models are essential approaches to developing interventions and improvements in public health. A theoretical framework is based on a theory while conceptual models or frameworks are logically developed arguments that provide justification for a research study. Conceptual models outline the methodological underpinnings of a research project and help to facilitate the identification of gaps in the current knowledge. (Kang, 2023) Both frameworks may be used in either quantitative or qualitative studies.
Public health evaluation models that I have identified are designed around a theoretical framework (e.g., ENCOMPASS, and Precede-Proceed Model), therefore, I am planning to apply a theoretical framework to my capstone project topic of increasing diversity in clinical trials. The ENCOMPASS framework contains five iterative stages including, understanding the pre-existing system to inform systems change and measuring outcomes and impact of system changes. (Luna Pinzon, 2022) In the Proceed phase of the Precede-Proceed model, a framework for evaluating the effect of a program on behavior changes is provided.
