A smooth constriction is installed across a flume. Flow conditions in this flume is such that the free surface level drops (water depth reduces) within the constriction. How do you classify the flow conditions in the flume upstream of the hump? Explain the reasons for your classification and free surface change using the concepts of specific energy and total energy. Use the E-Y diagram to support your explanation.
