After watching the lecture for Chapter 4, you should understand the term "selective attention."Another term you need to know is "selective inattention." When you select something to focus on (such as the players passing the ball in the Awareness video), you're using selective attention. At the same time, you're selecting things NOT to focus on (such as everything except the players passing the ball). So you are also using "selective inattention" - that is, you've selected things not to pay attention to. Think of "selective inattention" as the flip side of "selective attention."

How do the concepts of "selective attention" and "selective inattention" apply to the Test Your Awareness video you watched? What do these concepts indicate about the dangers of trying to text or talk on a cell-phone while driving? Suggest one or two things we can do to keep people from using their phones while driving.
