Summarize forced cultural change. With the advent of Social Darwinism, or the concept of naturalism and "survival of the fittest"- the belief certain races were innately better, the relationship between the indigenous peoples and "British North Americans" continued to decline. Shortly there after, the British Empire applied key pieces of legislation in support of social Darwinism, and the dynamics between the two cultures became irreconcilable. The Gradual Enfranchise Act was a deliberate choice to gradually eliminate what were deemed inferior indigenous cultures and slowly assimilate the First Nation under British rule and culture. Consequently, current indigenous communities are generally poorer than those, similar to "non-indigenous communities".
