That is true about WWII...there was a shortage of males around the world....many of them were dead or engaged in the military in one way or the other. That left women to work in the factories to build the munitions necessary to keep the military supplied. That did make a difference in how women were viewed. And, the unions were into this as well...female workers were unionized just like any male employee. That really gave the unions a chance to harmonize the pay between men and women...at least when it came to union jobs. So many things transferred from the unions to the non union workforce.

Why didn't this concept of equal pay move over to the non union world of work? And, the same can be said of minorities....Why do these issues seem to live on forever....
