5. The US Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Directive 15 created ethnic/racial categories officially used by Federal government and many other institutions and programs. Discuss how these categories are used in discussions of diversity in the US. What is problematic about these racial/ethnic categories?
6. After explaining the concept of diversity index, critically evaluate diversity patterns in the US discussed in the Washington Post article of Nov. 25, 2016 by Dan Keating and Lars Karklis (posted in Canvas week 4).
7. Summarize how the advantages or challenges of diversity are highlighted in course material thus far or in the US society broadly. Critically comment on the merits or weakness of the main point(s) made in these discussions.
8. Critically discuss the successes and/or shortcomings of social movements with references to changes in diversity issues in the US. Use specific example(s).
9. Elaborate on Ida Susser's (reading posted in Canvas) argument that the concept of the United States itself has a history of shifting frontiers and contested boundaries.
